Thank you f
or purc
hasing a Canon product.
EF35mm f/1.4L II USM is a large-diameter wide-angle lens for EOS camer
as.
●
“USM”
stands for Ultrasonic Motor
.
Safety Precautions
●
Do not look at the sun or a bright light source thr
ough the lens or
camera.
Doing so could result in loss of vision.
Looking at the sun directly through the lens is especially hazardous.
●
Whether it is attached to the camera or not,
do not leave the lens under
the sun without the lens cap attached.
This is to pre
vent the lens from
concentrating the sun’
s rays, which could cause a fire
.
Handling Cautions
●
If the lens is taken from a cold en
vironment into a warm one,
condensation may de
velop on the lens surface and internal par
ts.
To
prev
ent condensation in this case, first put the lens into an airtight plastic
bag before taking it from a cold to w
arm environment.
Then take out the lens
after it has war
med gradually
.
Do the same when taking the lens from a warm
environment into a cold one
.
●
Do not leav
e the lens in excessiv
e heat such as in a car in direct sunlight.
High temperatures can cause the lens to malfunction.
Usage Precautions
●
When using this lens, please chec
k the Canon website for the latest camer
a
firmware.
If the camera’
s fir
mware is not the latest v
ersion, be sure to update
to the latest firmware.
●
For details on updating firmware
, please check the Canon website.

Supplementary notes on using the lens and taking pictures.
1.
Mounting and Detaching the Lens
See your camera’
s instructions for details on mounting and detaching the
lens.
●
After detaching the lens, place the lens with the rear end up to pre
vent
the lens surface and contacts from getting scr
atched.
●
If the contacts get soiled, scratched, or hav
e fingerpr
ints on them,
corrosion or faulty connections can result.
The camera and lens ma
y not
operate properly
.
●
If the contacts get soiled or hav
e finger
prints on them, clean them with a
soft cloth.
●
If you remo
ve the lens, co
ver it with the lens cap and dust cap
.
T
o attach
the dust cap properly
, align the lens mount index and the
○
inde
x of the
dust cap
, and tur
n clockwise
❶
.
T
o remove it, re
verse the order
.
●
The lens mount has a rubber ring for enhanced dust- and water-
resistance.
The rubber r
ing may cause slight abr
asions around the
camera’
s lens mount, but this will not cause any problems
.
If the rubber
ring becomes worn, it is replaceable by a Canon Service Center at cost.
2.
Setting the Focus Mode
T
o shoot in autofocus (AF) mode
, set the focus mode s
witch to AF
❷
.
T
o shoot in manual f
ocus (MF) mode, set the focus mode s
witch to MF
, and turn
the focusing ring to set the f
ocus
❸
.
The focusing ring alwa
ys wor
ks, regardless of the f
ocus mode.
When the camera AF mode is ONE SHO

Infinity Compensation Mark
T
o compensate for shifting of the infinity f
ocus point that results from changes in
temperature.
The infinity position at normal temperature is the point at which the
vertical line of the distance scale L mark is aligned with the distance index
❹
.
For accur
ate manual focusing of subjects at infinity
, look through the
viewfinder or look at the magnified image* on the LCD screen while
rotating the focusing ring.
* For camer
as with Live
View shooting capability
.
4.
Depth-of-Field Scale
The depth of field is the distance in front of and behind the plane of focus on the
subject that appears sharp.
The depth of field is indicated b
y the area between
the depth-of-field scale lines below the distance scale.
The depth-of-field scale is an approximate indicator
.
5.
Hood
The EW
-77B hood can keep unwanted light out of the lens
, and also protects the
lens from rain, snow
, and dust.
T
o attach the hood, align the hood’
s attachment position mark with the red dot
on the front of the lens, then turn the hood in the direction of the arrow until the
lens’
s red dot is aligned with the hood’
s stop position mark
❺
.
T
o remov
e the hood, hold down the button on the side and turn the hood in the
direction of the arrow until the position mark on the hood aligns with the red dot
❻
.
The hood can be rev
erse-mounted on the lens f
or storage.
●
P
ar
t of the picture may be b
locked if the hood is not attached properly
.
●
When attaching or detaching the hood, grasp the base of the hood to
turn it.
T
o prev
ent deformation, do not grasp the rim of the hood to tur
n
it.
6.
Filters (Sold Separately)
Y
ou can attach filters to the filter mounting thread (ø72 mm) on the front of the
lens.
●
Only one filter may be attached.
●

polarizing filter
.
●
T
o adjust the polarizing filter, first remo
ve the lens hood.
7.
