Braun ExactFit

BUA5000
Upper arm blood pressure monitor
2
3
Intended use of Braun ExactFit™ 1
Braun ExactFit™ 1 is a blood pressur
e monitor that has been developed
for easy and accurate blood pr
essure measurements from the upper arm.
The measuring accuracy of Braun ExactFit™ 1 was tested at the time of
manufacture and was proven by clinical r
esearch in accordanc
e with
ESH.
†
What you
should know about blood pressure
Blood pressure constantly changes thr
oughout the day
. It rises sharply in
the early morning and declines during the late morning. Blood pressure
rises again in the afternoon and nally drops to a low level at night. A
lso,
it may vary in a shor
t period of time.
Ther
efore, r
eadings from successive
measurements can uctuate.
This device will display your blood pr
essure reading ref
erring to two
values: systolic and diastolic.
The sy
stolic blood pressure (the upper
number) indicates how much pressur
e your blood is exerting against
your artery walls when the hear
t beats.
The diastolic blood pr
essure (the
lower number) indicates how much pr
essure your blood is ex
erting
against your artery walls while the hear
t is resting between beats.
The
pulse value is also displayed after each measurement.
Blood pressure measured in a doctor’
s oce only pr
ovides a momentary
value. Repeated measuremen
ts at home better reect one’
s actual blood
pressure values under everyday conditions
.
Moreover
, many people have a dieren
t blood pressure when they
measure at home, because they tend t
o be more relaxed than when in
the doctor
’
s oce. Regular blood pressure measur
ements taken at home
can provide your doctor with valuable inf
ormation on your normal blood
pressure values under actual «everyday» conditions.
The ESH (European Society of Hypertension) and WHO (World Health
Organisation) have set up the f
ollowing standard blood pressur
e values
when measured with a resting pulse at home:

Safety information and important precautions
T
o ensure accurate measuring results, read the c
omplete instructions for
use carefully
.
People su
ering from cardiac arrhythmia, vascular constriction,
arteriosclerosis in the extremities, diabetes or users of cardiac
pacemakers should consult their doctor before measuring their blood
pressure themselves
. Deviations in blood pressure values may occur in
such cases.
If your blood pressure reading is in the sev
ere hypertension range with
values of 180 mmHg systolic and above
, and/or 110 mmHg diastolic and
above; and you nd y
ou have one or two readings in this range - please
see your doctor straight away
.
If you are under medical treatment or taking any medication, please
consult your doctor rst.
The use of this blood pressure monitor is not in
tended as a substitute for
a consultation with your doctor
.

What to do if ...
Error
Description
Potential cause and remedy
Batteries are low
Get ready to replace batteries soon with
new ones.
Batteries are fully
discharged
Insert new batteries or check that
batteries are correctly inserted.
«Err 1»
Signal too weak
The pulse signals on the cu are too
weak. Re-position the cu and repeat
the measurement.
«Err 2»
Error signal
During the measurement, error signals
were detected by the cu
, caused for
instance by movement or muscle
tension. Repeat the measurement,
keeping the arm still.
«Err 3»
No pressure in the
cu
An adequate pressure cannot be
generated in the cu
. A leak may have
occurred. Check that the cu is correctly
connected and is not too loose. Replace
the batteries if necessary. Repeat the
measurement.
«Err 5»
Abnormal result
The measuring signals are inaccurate
and no result can therefor
e be
displayed. Read through the checklist
for performing reliable measurements
and then repeat the measurement.
«HI»
Pulse or cu
pressure
too high
The pressure in the cu is too high (ov
er
300 mmHg) OR the pulse is too high
(over 200 beats per minute). Relax for
5 minutes and repeat the measurement.
«Lo»
Pulse too lo
w
The pulse is too low (less than 40 beats
per minute). Repeat the measurement.
