Warning
Caution! The espresso maker gets hot during operation.
Thereisarisk of injury.Avoid touchingthe surfaceof
the unit. Only touch the unit by the handle!
The lid of the coffee container must not be opened
during the brewing process. Danger of scalding due to
escaping steam!
The water tank may only be lled with water! Never
pour in milk, sugar,other liquids/ingredients!
4. Tip
First, heat alittle water in aseparate pot or kettle. If you
put the coffee pot directly on the hob,you willoverheat
the metalofthe pot and the coffee maybecome bitteror
tasteless. Unfortunately, this also often results in ametallic
taste, because the pot releases avours when it is too hot.
Fillthe lower jug of the espresso maker with already
preheated -not boiling -water,but only to just below the
valve, otherwise the pressurecannot equalise via the valve.
Fillthe funnel to the brim with freshly ground coffee beans
or regular coffee powder.(If the coffee is home-ground,
please ensurethat the grind is between that for ne
espresso and that for French press, and it is best to usea
machine with adisc or cone grinder). The coffee powder
should be evenly distributed up to the edge of the funnel
and can then be smoothed out. Press it only very lightly
with your nger! Never use anespresso tamper, otherwise
the pressurewillbetoo high during the brewing process!
(If the coffee gets too strong, just reduce the amount of
coffee powder alittle next time.)
Now place the funnel insert on the bottom part.
Screw the upper part rmly onto the lower part. Make sure
that no coffee powder causes the thread to dislodge.
Now place the coffee pot on the hob over amedium
heat. If the heatistoo high, the coffeeburns and abitter
aftertaste remains.
33
After afew minutes you willhear gurgling/bubbling. The
lid should be closed at this point. The coffee now runs
through the riser tube into the top of the pot. Take the
pot off the hob as soon as thereisasteady stream and
the coffee takes on ahoney-like colour. The residual heat
willstillpush allthe water up and you willavoid burning
the coffee.
Hold the lower part of the pot brieyunder cold water.
This stops the extraction and makes your coffee even richer
and avoids ametallic taste.
Now you can pour your coffee intoasmallespresso cup.
Be careful when pouring -the pot might be abit hot! (You
can also preheat your espresso cup with alittle hot water
so that your coffee doesn't cool down too quickly.)
Note
If the hob is larger than the espresso maker, thereisno
need to worry. The espresso makercan be used on a
ceramic hob without any problems, even though it only
covers about half the surface. This makes no difference
to the brewing of the coffee.Make surethat the handle
of the pot does not get too hot to prevent possibleburns.
Position the espresso maker at the edge of the hotplate
and let the handle protrude outwards.
5. Cleaning and care
After use, allow the espresso maker to cool down before
cleaning it. Remove allresidues to prevent the formation of
deposits. Makesurethat the valve and the lter arefreeof
blockages.
It is advisable to clean the espresso makerbyhand, as many
dishwasher cleaners contain corrosive agents that could
attack the material of your espresso maker.
Rinse: to do this, disassemblethe espresso makerinto
its components after each use. Wash everything out with
clean water. Please do not use rinsing agent under any
circumstances, as the chemicalschange the taste of the
coffee.
Then dry the individual parts, except for the top of the pot,
with atowel.Preciouscoffee oils collect in the top of the
pot and you should preserve them at allcosts. Then let
all3parts dry completely separately to avoid unpleasant
odours.
When everything has dried, simply put the espresso maker
back together.
General cleaning is recommended every 2-3 weeks
(depending on use). This increases the life of the coffee
maker many times over.Todothis, clean everything as
usual and this time also wipe the coffee oils from the top of
the pot. Also remove the sealing ring and metal lter and
clean them thoroughly.Let everything dry well. Only then
should you reassemble the espresso maker.Even though
the espresso maker has only been used afew times, itmay
tarnish on the lower part due to heating too quickly, too
great adifference in temperature, etc. It is normal for the
espresso maker to develop these tarnish marks. Youcan
usually remove the blue, rainbow-coloured streaks quite
easily with adescaler or some vinegar. Herewerecommend
the Xavaxpremium descaler for high-quality coffee machines.
The cleaning works very welland the streaks disappear.
Golden, grey and black discolourations due to overheating
areunfortunately morestubborn and may requirelemon
concentrate and cleaning stone paste in addition to the
descaler solution. However, never use cleaning agents that
aretoo aggressive!
